Job Responsibilities

Manage, develop, and execute automation projects. Utilize new technology for retrofitting and system upgrades. Develop and monitor projects schedules. Utilize best practices and common systems to support manufacturing initiative. Participate in functional area meetings and related activities representing controls engineering. Assist in improving the plant's performance goals. Provide technical support and training to skilled trades. Investigate systems issues and equipment problems. Develop cost estimates, investment forecast, business cases, appropriation requests, and plans for minor project activity. Utilize statistical methods for continuous improvement on plant systems and processes. Coordinate and communicate the development of changes to improve conditions for the assembly and support processes. Ensure long-term, cost-effective maintenance of equipment. Manage projects to minimize investment cost. Explore new technologies for plant-wide application.

Function Overview

The Controls Engineer will be working in a manufacturing environment and responsible for production support, including troubleshooting and upgrading existing equipment. The controls engineer will be responsible for new system designs and implementation. They are also responsible for keeping production running smoothly by maintaining and implementing systems that align with current strategies. The Controls Engineer will provide manufacturing support utilizing statistical methods for continuous improvement and provide technical input and engineering support in problem resolution. The controls engineer will develop new methods using the latest technology.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or an applicable Engineering / Technology field

  • 10 + years of work experience in controls and automation

Preferred Experience

  • Proven experience with PLC controllers and related products, as well as hardware and software

  • Proven experience in programming control systems is essential

  • Design-level knowledge of industrial machine control circuits and components

  • Strong electrical background with a high level of analytical ability to troubleshoot unusual and difficult problems

  • AutoCAD proficiency in electrical schematic design

  • Advanced PLC/HMI development capability

  • Experience with various communication protocols

  • Experienced with AC and DC variable speed controls

  • Experience with servo controls

  • Project Management experience
