HNTB Bridge Group Section Manager - Des Moines, IA in Ames, Iowa

What We're Looking For

Looking for a new challenge? Join our new Des Moines office and work with a fantastic team to grow our bridge practice in Iowa and across the Midwest.

Provides both technical and administrative supervision to the section so as to ensure that technical, administrative, direct labor, and schedule targets of the section are met in accordance with applicable professional standards, design control procedures, company procedures, and technical design guides. Section revenue normally does not exceed $1.5 million per year.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Growing the bridge practice by developing and maintaining established client relationships with Iowa DOT and related clients, including monitoring client satisfaction.

  • Actively manages assigned project management activities (project scope, schedule, budget and quality management) and performs technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, specifications and plan preparation.

  • Implements and executes the firm’s Sophisticated Sales Approach, Sophisticated Contracting Approach and Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SSA, SCA, SDA).

  • Establishes priorities and work schedules and coordinates resource needs/assignments.

  • Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.

  • Responsible for the hiring, supervision, mentoring, professional development, evaluation and termination of department staff members.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master's degree in Engineering

  • Complex bridge, including major river bridge, design experience

  • Iowa P.E. license

  • Understand Iowa DOT policies and project requirements

  • Knowledge of local, regional, and national transportation initiatives

  • Proven experience in managing the commercial side of engineering projects and pursuits, including negotiations, fee and contract reviews

  • Strategic thinker with a focus on sustainable growth

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Lead strategic client and structural project pursuits and serve as a key bridge practice liaison for selected clients.

  • Attend and participate in frequent industry events.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 11 years relevant experience

  • 2 years supervisory experience
