Position Summary: The Project Engineer provides project engineering, estimating, expediting, and office support for general construction and construction management projects.

Job-specific Competencies and Duties: Knowledgeable and productive in the estimating, bidding and negotiating of contracts. Participates as a project team member in quantity take-off, pricing, and receipt of sub-bids. Directs procedures for shop drawing processing, expediting, and approval. Prepares preliminary and final construction schedules, schedules pre-construction meetings with owner, architect, engineer, subcontractors, and field staff, and conducts job-site visits.Researches specified materials for availability and pricing. Solicits competitive bids from reputable subcontractors and suppliers. Analyzes labor costs and submits partial payment estimates. Analyzes sub-bids and recommends award of subcontracts and purchase orders. Authorizes supplemental orders. Receives, evaluates, and prepares change order proposals. Issues supplemental orders to subcontractors and suppliers. Incorporates labor, material, and equipment costs with job labor costs and the job ledger. Expedites job close-out procedures including “as-built” drawings, operation manuals, warranties, guarantees, service visits, punch list, sales tax reports, retainage releases, final acceptance, and final payment. Maintains project files for documentation as necessary. Develops a working knowledge of all software and project management tools related to the position. Completes craft field training and other trainings as directed by management. Reviews work with supervisor and secures approvals.

Minimum Qualifications: Four-year technical degree or a two-year technical degree with two years of experience or equivalent combination of experience and training.

Travel: Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.Project Engineersare assigned to jobsites located across the state.

Work Environment: While performing the job duties, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration, within OSHA standards. Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, extreme cold, and exposure to dust.

Physical Demands: The employee will work in conditions of repetitive movement, bending or twisting, and using hands to lift, push, pull, carry, handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time, and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
