Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, the Master Electrician (Main Tech V) will be responsible to oversee all electrical, fire alarm, access control, and other related systems and installations across multiple school facilities. The primary duties will include ensuring compliance with electrical codes, troubleshooting electrical issues, performing repairs and maintenance, and overseeing electrical projects within the District. This position works closely with other maintenance staff, administrators, and external contractors to ensure a safe and functional electrical environment conducive to the educational needs of students and staff.Schedule:Full-time, 255 day-calendar, 7:00am-3:30pmResponsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Monitors and maintains assigned systems within the District's facilities, including lighting, power distribution, emergency systems, and communications networks.

  • Ensures that all work and installations adhere to relevant local, state, and national electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards.

  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves issues promptly to minimize disruptions to school operations.

  • Develops and implements preventive maintenance schedules for electrical systems and equipment to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of electrical assets.

  • Works with the Director of Facilities to support projects from inception to completion, including planning, scheduling, and coordination of resources. Projects may include systems upgrades, renovations, and new installations.

  • Promotes safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for maintenance staff, students, and faculty. Conducts or coordinates safety inspections and audits of electrical systems and equipment.

  • Maintains accurate records of systems, maintenance activities, repair inspections, and projects.

  • Responds promptly to electrical and other system emergencies such as power outages, equipment failures, and other safety-related incidents. Cooperate with other resources, (City of Ames, service providers, contractors, etc.) to restore services quickly to minimize disruptions.

  • Occasional snow removal and grounds work, fill-in custodial if needed.

Qualifications:

  • Master Electrician, licensed in the State of Iowa

The successful candidate will exhibit:

  • Thorough knowledge of electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards

  • Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical, fire alarm, access control, and other related systems and conducting repairs.

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

  • Project management skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and record-keeping.

  • Willingness to participate in professional development activities to stay current with industry trends and advancements.

  • Ability to work well independently and with others in a team environment.

  • Ability to use various computer programs to manage work orders, email, training programs, timesheet, spreadsheets, word processing, etc.

  • Observation of all District policies and procedures.

  • Ability to create a sense of belonging and a welcoming environment for all students and staff.
