Lauridsen Group Inc. Engineering Process Controls Intern - APC in Ankeny, Iowa

Apply engineering principles by assisting engineers developing, designing, and implementing instrumentation and process controls necessary for efficient operations of the APC facilities and supply sites.



  • Pursuing an Engineering degree in an ABET accredited school

  • Preferred majors are Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science

  • Preferred in junior or senior year

  • Preferred >3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA


  • Previous part-time work related to field preferred.

  • Class projects related to field preferred.


  • Assist in the design and modification of ladder logic for APC plants and collections sites.

  • Assist in the design and modification of PanelView + applications for APC plants and collection sites.

  • Assist in the design and modification of electrical schematics.

  • Assist in the concept, design and fabrication of panel design to UL standards.

  • Assistance with special or ongoing projects as instructed by the Engineering Manager.

  • Promote safety and a safe working environment in all areas of operation.

  • Provide regular updates to engineering team regarding the status of projects.



  • Knowledge of Allen-Bradley's Studio 5000 programming software.

  • Knowledge of Allen-Bradley's Factory Talk Studio ME.

  • Ability to operate computer aided design programs specifically AutoCAD to design or modify electrical ladder diagrams, control panel electrical overview, power distribution, and P&ID overviews.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.

  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits.

  • Familiarity with flow, temperature, pressure and level sensors.

  • Willingness to work in the field with hand tools.

  • Reliable transportation to work in Ankeny, Iowa.

  • Ability to travel during Summer up to 25% - vehicle, housing, and meals will be provided.

  • Due to requirements of this position, including requirements of companies with whom we do business, successful applicants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. Vaccine verification will be required upon hire.


  • Familiarity with Allen-Bradley's Logix 500 programming software, with an emphasis on conversions to newer lines of software.

  • Experience with Inductive Automation's Ignition software.

  • Knowledge of SQL databases.

  • Have the ability to read and develop control logic diagrams,

  • Knowledge of motor controls specifically 480 volt 3 phase.

  • Ability to work 40+ hours per week during Summer with the potential for part-time work before Summer and during the Fall.
