Gannett Fleming, Inc. Traffic Management Center Construction Coordinator in Ankeny, Iowa

Gannett Fleming is seeking a full-time TMC Construction Coordinator in Ankeny, IA to assist the Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) at their Statewide Transportation Management Center (TMC) in Ankeny, IA.

The Coordinator will assist the TMC in capturing and analyzing construction, highway, and incident data that will be used to track the performance of both the highway system and TMC operations. The coordinator position currently has oversight of the construction projects and is required to work directly with construction RCE and contractors for planned events. The position creates construction DMS plans that are shared and approved by the RCE. The coordinator is responsible for insuring plans are being activated for projects and notifying all stakeholders of the project status.

TMC data is stored in a variety of data sources, in multiple formats, and from multiple agencies that must be consolidated for reports, maps, or to provide historical trends.  Reports and data may also be requested to assist with unique traffic studies or investigations; to assist in the planning of future highway projects, or to verify the QA/QC of reported information. The coordinator may also be called upon to assist in day to day TMC operations or help support system operators as needed.  

The Coordinator will support Iowa DOT in informing the public and partner agencies on the impact of weather, construction, maintenance, and other activities; ensure that work zone setup meets department standards and conform to policies. Additionally, the TMC coordinator will support the program manager and TMC assistant manager with Quality Control on events logged into the ATMS.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Program and TMC Assistant Manager as needed.

  • Subject matter expert for Roadway Construction and Work Zone mitigation for Shift Supervisor, TMC Operators and the department.

  • Ability to perform as an Operator, Shift Supervisor, and TMC Coordinator as needed.

  • Enter information into Iowa 511.

  • Coordinate Enforcement requests to ensure safe work zones.

  • Create and maintain DMS resource plans and schedules.

  • Mange Roadway restrictions and detours in the TMC Dashboard and OpenTMS

  • Assist with the monitor the status of the Iowa DOT transportation network statewide and provide detailed written and verbal reports to the appropriate departmental personnel and partners.

  • Process and consolidate information received from multiple sources into clearly written reports. Facilitate coordination between other government agencies and municipal partners during incidents and emergency activations.

  • Assist in the monitoring and integration of ITS devices.

  • Compose, record and post information to the department’s ATIS system.

  • Ensure the TMC’s readiness as a coordination center during emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have TMC Operator experience or equivalent experience

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent training

  • 5 years of experience

  • 2 years of senior level coordinator experience

  • Ability to read, write and understand English

  • Ability to multi-task and remain calm during high pressure situations

  • Ability to clearly communicate both verbally and written

  • Ability to work alone with minimal supervision

  • Ability to professionally interact with all levels of management

  • Must have an aptitude for providing excellent customer service

  • Proficiency with multiple computer systems, including but not limited to; Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and various GIS and web-based information systems

  • Willingness to respond during weather emergencies and ability to work overtime when the need arises.

  • Pass a Drug Screening plus Iowa DOT Driver License and Criminal Background

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree or equivalent education

  • Supervisory experience

  • Ability to perform data analysis and complete complex technical reports, spreadsheets and documents
