Job Title: Pipe Layer

Pay: $25/hour

Location: Nevada, Iowa

Schedule: Monday - Friday / 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM / OT Available

Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Pipe Layer to join our team in Nevada, Iowa. In this role, you will be responsible for setting bedding rock and laying utility pipes in a trench/ditch setting. You will work closely with the operator to ensure safe and accurate digging and perform various tasks that include grading, pipe installation, and excavation. This position involves working in physically demanding conditions and requires a strong work ethic, reliability, and the ability to handle heavy equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set bedding rock and lay utility pipes in trench/ditch settings.

• Direct the operator to avoid pre-existing utility lines and ensure safe digging practices.

• Perform rock grading, set rock, line up pipes, and cut ditches to grade.

• Dig with a shovel in wet ditches and handle other excavation tasks.

• Use a laser to determine grading, depths, and ridges.

• Lift and handle rock, pipe, and other heavy materials.

• Work in sewer water situations if a pipe bursts.

• Count and record the footage of pipes laid, and signal continuously to the operator.

Essential Skills:

• Experience in laying pipe, particularly within the sewer/stormwater field.

• Ability to perform heavy lifting and shoveling throughout the workday.

• Proficiency in simple math (addition, subtraction, multiplication).

• Valid Driver’s License required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience in pipe laying.

• Skills in pipe fitting, heavy equipment operation, excavation, backhoe use, piping installation, drainage, and stormwater management are a plus.

Work Environment:

• Projects range from 5 feet to 40 feet deep, with work conducted 100% within OSHA guidelines, utilizing trench boxes.

• You will be part of a small team (2-4 people) and will work closely with an operator, requiring effective communication to ensure smooth operations.

• Dress code: jeans, T-shirt (no sleeveless), steel-toe shoes. PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, vest, gloves) will be provided.

• Working hours are 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with no weekends. Overtime may be available during the week if needed.
