JOB SUMMARY Creates computer-aided designed (CAD) construction installation and detail drawings for transmission projects, maintains drawing database and performs document control as well as assists with design activities and processes. Uses various systems and technologies to create and maintain maps which are combined with data that is geographically referenced. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain transmission operating maps and databases by revising existing or creating new as needed. Maintains and administers various GIS systems. Assigns addresses for new construction projects and perform field verification of existing addresses. Prepares GIS layers, applications and data sets for various departments, and external entities. Verifies legal deed descriptions and confirms placement of property lines. Analyzes various operations within the company to determine issues and adapts GIS application to suit. Creates and maintains tax maps for accounting use. Maintains databases and ensures that these databases are up to date and accurate. Gathers field data for use in various mapping applications. Creates and prints maps and map books following standard formats. Produces maps and data sets for use by other departments, government agencies, and other external entities. Reviews field changes and coordinates updating of records to maintain accurate records Coordinates with other engineers and departments which may include consulting, managing projects, organizing resources or maintenance. Supports the Regulatory Department with the Iowa Utilities Board franchise process. Prepares or assists others in preparing design packages for construction work utilizing standards. REQUIREMENTS Associate's degree in Computer Drafting or Computer-Aided Design or Bachelor's Degree in a study such as geography, computer science, surveying and engineering, forestry or earth science, or equivalent. Course work specific to GIS and mapping, Cartography geodes and GPS measurement and analysis is preferred. Minimum of three (3) years related experience; five (5) to seven (7) years preferred. Knowledge of structural steel detailing, computer-aided design drafting, transmission design, and strong math skills. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments to meet established deadlines. Knowledge of CAD software, Micro station preferred. Knowledge in reading and interpreting blueprints, fabrication detail drawings, station design and construction drawings. Experience with mapmaking, surveying and computers. Demonstrates a keen understanding of spatial data and algorithms. Shows the ability to enter data quickly, correctly and efficiently. Understands how to convert data from older sources such as maps and books into digital formats. Understands how to create and edit metadata. Possesses the ability to build models in order to create an efficient workflow. Demonstrates a vast knowledge of cartography and at least some understanding of graphic design. Knowledge of Electric System and its components.
