Raytheon Technologies Electrical Engineer Digital Hardware Co-Op (Summer/Fall 2022) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

We are seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineering Co-op Student with interests in Hardware circuit board design to work in Mission Systems Communication Products Engineering. This position is for the summer/fall 2022 session and is located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This position provides the opportunity for the student to broaden their background with a practical approach to engineering. The primary goal for the student is to merge theoretical knowledge gained in school with practical engineering applications. The types of responsibilities include assisting Senior Electrical Engineers in the design, development, support, and documentation associated with both digital and analog circuitry used in high performance communication products, such as software-defined radios and data links. This position focuses on circuit board designs for digital hardware that utilize common digital components, such as FPGAs, Microprocessors, and memory. This position offers the opportunity to expand the student's knowledge and skills of all phases of electrical hardware design, including requirements capture, design, schematic capture, layout, test/verification, integration, and factory transition. Specific types of engineering-related activities include analog/digital electronics design and test, component analysis and troubleshooting of electronic circuitry. This position not only supports design engineers, but also plays a key role in supporting factory, field, and customer related issues.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Creation and analysis of electrical schematics

  • Test and troubleshooting of electronic circuitry. Includes support lab of design verification testing for circuit card assemblies

  • Perform circuit card design lifecycle activities including requirements capture, schematic capture, design documentation, signal integrity analysis, creation of printed circuit board stackup and routing instructions, coordination and review of printed wiring board layout, creation of test plans, and root cause analysis.

  • Perform trade studies as needed and select components necessary to implement the requirements.

  • Experience in circuit analysis and knowledge of circuit design.

  • Have demonstrated effective problem solving skills and ability to work well in a team environment.

  • Ability to effectively communicate in a professional manner and produce detailed, clear and concise technical documentation

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with digital electronics design principles and techniques (e.g. circuit designs using Microprocessor/microcontroller, DSP, FPGA, ADC, DAC, etc.) and experience working with lab equipment (Oscilloscopes, Analyzers, etc.)

  • Experience with a schematic capture tools (examples may include Mentor Graphics xDxDesigner, Xpedition, Cadence Allegro, Altium, KiCad, or etc.) and signal integrity analysis tools (ex. Hyperlynx) for creation of circuit card designs.

  • Working knowledge of digital circuit design parameters (e.g., throughput, rise time, clock frequencies, propagation delay). Includes knowledge of computer hardware components (e.g., processors, memory, interfaces), and characteristics (e.g., throughput, processing architecture, timing, capacity).
