The Collins Aerospace Avionics Test Engineering organization is looking for a motivated individual to be a Principal Project Engineer leading multidisciplinary teams of engineers (including systems, mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines) developing complex engineering solutions. The Avionics Test Engineering organization is a global engineering organization responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of the manufacturing test solutions in support of the $5B Avionics strategic business unit as well as external customers including armed services and airlines both domestic and international.

As a key member of the Avionics Test Engineering leadership team, the Principal Project Engineer ensures the successful execution of test solution projects from inception, through deployment to customers, as well as long-term support. Typical test stations include components such as switch systems, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, DMM's, power supplies and other RF or digital related equipment. This position also requires development and support of Environmental Stress Screening (thermal and vibration) test equipment and software suites.

This person will consistently demonstrate professionalism in their interactions with all levels of the organization and will routinely go above and beyond expectations in performing their work. They will have strong project execution, systems engineering, and critical thinking skills. They will be passionate about performing data analysis for creating accurate bids and crafting attractive proposals.

This is a multi-faceted role requiring versatility across a variety of tasks in a highly collaborative environment. The role requires working closely with engineers and leaders, at various locations around the globe, to ensure project success. Organizationally, the role reports to an Engineering Manager in the Avionics Test Engineering organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead project technical execution and maintain performance metrics for decision making and continuous improvement purposes

  • Manage project scope (requirements and change requests) ensuring it meets agreed to commitments

  • Generate and maintain project schedules with understood dependencies, deliveries, and critical path

  • Utilize Earned Value (EV) methods for managing project budget (and schedule)

  • Ensure project meets quality expectations

  • Identify risks and opportunities and resolve them through proactive ownership

  • Prepare well-crafted presentations reporting project status to leadership teams

  • Develop Engineering estimates and proposals for potential projects and gaining organizational buy-in

Qualifications

Candidates for this role must possess a STEM degree

US Citizenship required. Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have prior project leadership of multidiscipline engineering teams, managing customer relationships, and a Master of Engineering or Master of Business Administration.Basic Qualifications:This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 10 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 7 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required.
