The Sr. Director of Maintenance & Automation works collaboratively with the Department of Facilities & Public Safety, as well as College administration, faculty, staff, and students on building maintenance, building automation, energy management, inventory, facilities assets and work order completion. Position reports to the VP of Facilities & Public Safety.

  • Provide the leadership and strategic direction for Campus building systems (Electrical, Mechanical) building automation, campus utilities, inventory and asset management operations.

  • Serve as the liaison between Facilities and other departments throughout the institution. Promote positive interaction with departments and coordinate needs with available services.

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of short-term and long-term goals and objectives, which are aligned with the goals of the Facilities and Public Safety Department.

  • Responsible for operational expenditures in collaboration with the overall department budget

  • Supervise subordinates in the administration of routine activities of Facilities Services

  • Develop procedures which successfully provide efficient and effective services

  • Responsible for collection of necessary technical data and preparation of justification to support budget approval

  • Responsible for training and development of skilled work force to ensure competence and efficiency as well as scheduling workload

  • Interpret and ensure compliance with all city, state and federal regulatory requirements including environmental protection, safety, building codes, and others as applicable

  • Liaison with local agencies, companies, contractors and members of the academic community on technical matters affecting facilities management

  • Serve as an on-call maintenance supervisor during a monthly rotation and dispatch on-call personnel

  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

Position involves working in an office and warehouse setting. Frequent (34-66%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing. Occasional (10-33%) lifting up to 50 lbs.


  • Associates degree in facilities operations or related field

  • 5-7 years of supervision experience in a Facilities related field

  • Working knowledge of building systems

  • At least five years of recent and relevant full time work experience.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Operations or related field

  • Diverse facilities maintenance supervision experience of 3 or more related departments

  • Strong knowledge background in Building automation, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing systems

  • At least seven years of recent and relevant full time work experience

  • Live with-in a 30-mile radius of Kirkwood’s Main Campus
