Alliant Energy Distribution Engineer in Centerville, Iowa
Monitor delivery system for: adequate system capacity and power factor, reliability, high and low voltage problems, phase current and voltage unbalance and condition of facilities.
Analyze voltage, capacity, power factor, phase balance, reliability and physical condition problems associated with the operation of distribution feeders during normal and contingency situations and recommend solutions to problems utilizing established distribution design criteria and standards.
In partnership with planning, develop feeder models and planning studies. Make recommendations for new substations and voltage conversions.
Perform fault current studies (primary and secondary fault current calculations) to properly size, locate and coordinate the settings of over current protection devices.
Provide support when requested by operations during system outages (OHD managers responsible for outage response time).
Review and/or develop subdivision and industrial park designs with Operations. Through discussion offer expertise in providing cost effective solution based on construction standards.
Provide high-level design scopes, determine preliminary cost estimates (material, eng. labor & construction labor) and prepare documents for projects.
Investigate power quality inquiries and perform analysis of distribution system to assess customer versus utility responsibility for problem and resolution.
Serve on cross-functional design and standards advisory teams to recommend new standard and resolve issues and problems associated with existing design and/or material standards.

Alliant Energy is currently recruiting for a Distribution Engineer I (this position may be filled at a higher level depending upon the candidate's qualifications) in our Osceola, Creston or Centerville, IA Operations Center. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Distribution Engineers provide day-to-day technical support and training to many of Alliant Energy’s Business Units. Using a variety of tools, Distribution Engineers analyze and identify root causes to make recommendations to prevent or solve delivery system reliability and power quality problems identified by operations or customer concerns and determine cost effective solutions. Distribution Engineers are responsible for the identifying, scoping, and designing rebuild projects in their territory.

Job Category:Engineering Job Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an engineering program that is accredited through the Engineering Accreditation Commission with an emphasis in engineering. A degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
Previous technical and/or professional experience in an Internship or co-op in engineering preferred.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management) preferred.
Ability to work in a diverse work environment.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
