Job Description

This assistant survey party chief position is in the Highway Division within the District 4 office. The assistant is responsible for obtaining engineering survey information needed to develop highway improvement projects on the primary road and interstate systems. The assistant survey party chief performs technical engineering survey work. This position requires demonstrated skills and knowledge in engineering survey procedures and electronic data collection techniques. Typical responsibilities include collecting topographic survey data, performing survey computations, as well as collecting, formatting, recording, analyzing and editing electronic field data.

This position requires demonstrated skills that include excellent professional communication skills with property owners, ability to instruct and train other new staff members in standard operational procedures of survey instrument operations, techniques, knowledge of electronic data collectors, and knowledge of electronic data collection procedures. Development for improving and increasing capabilities through access to education, 8 training opportunities and advanced technical assignments. Applicants must have experience Preforming accurate Measurement of Topographic Features, Record and Analyze Topographic Survey Data.

Travel: Some travel may be required

License: Driver's License Required

Special Requirements: Must be able to work outdoors year around in all weather conditions.

Additional Requirements: Post offer, pre-employment physical.

Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Minimum Qualification Requirements

The equivalent of three years of full-time engineering survey experience which included the operation of survey instruments;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting thirty semester hours of college, university, or technical school course work in civil engineering, construction engineering, or photogrammetry for one year of the required experience with a maximum substitution of three years;

OR

employees with current continuous experience in the state Executive Branch that includes the equivalent of twelve months of full-time survey experience as a Construction Technician Assistant.

Additional Qualification Requirements

  • All positions are required to have and maintain a minimum of a valid Class C Non-Commercial Operator's License.

  • Prior to starting employment, all persons are required to have a post offer pre-employment physical verifying the physical ability to perform the duties described.

  • Employees must be able to travel and may be required to stay away from home overnight during assignments
