The Principal Engineer will be based in Des Moines, Iowa.This position will involve planning, design, and construction management of water/wastewater infrastructure projects. We are looking for a team member who has a proven track record of successfully selling, managing, and executing projects. This experience includes managing all activities related to project scope, schedule, cost, quality, communications, resources, and risk elements to optimize client service, quality, and fiscal responsibility.The Principal Water/Wastewater Engineer will have a Midwestern US network of water/wastewater connections (ideally including Iowa) and technical expertise in one or more of the following areas:Wastewater Conveyance and Pump StationsPeak Weather Flow ManagementWastewater Treatment and Biosolids ManagementWater SupplyWater TreatmentWater Distribution and StoragePrimary duties include:Lead the team for delivery of water/wastewater projects including evaluation, master planning and detailed design of water and wastewater treatment and conveyance projects.Review assigned project(s) after award to define project scope, determine work procedures/sequences and develop schedules, budgets, staffing, vendor lists, and progress billing points.Prepare project opening orders, project outlines, project initiation, project schedules, project executions, and project closings.Lead specification and contract document preparation including permitting, property acquisition, and stakeholder involvement.Manage day-to-day activities of project engagements including clients and project teams.Successfully interface with multi-disciplinary design teams.Achieve project objectives including quality/scopes, budgets, and schedules.Mentor junior engineers.Assist in marketing business opportunities with key clients and development of responses to RFPs/RFQs.Develop and maintain continuing business relationships with clients as part of ongoing business development efforts.Participate in local water and wastewater professional organizations and prepare, coordinate, and present market specific papers and presentations.RequirementsMaster's Degree in Environmental EngineeringMinimum of 10 years of relevant experienceProfessional Engineer (PE) license required; must possess the ability to obtain Iowa PE within 6 months of hireMembership in the Water Environment Foundation (WEF) and/or American Water Works Association (AWWA)Strong verbal, computer, and organizational skillsExcellent technical writing skillsStrong client relationship skillsDesign team leadership skillsThe successful candidate will enjoy technical management of water/wastewater project delivery; development and maintenance of close client and staff relationships; possess the ability to execute creative approaches to project delivery; and personal dedication to serving client needs.Equal Opportunity Employer: Minorities, Women, Veterans, Disabilities.#LI-DH1Equal Opportunity Employer/Protected Veterans/Individuals with Disabilities.Please view Equal Employment Opportunity Posters provided by OFCCP here.The contractor will not discharge or in any other manner discriminate against employees or applicants because they have inquired about, discussed, or disclosed their own pay or the pay of another employee or applicant.
