We are looking to hire a Project Engineer at our Johnston, Iowa location. The Project Engineer is a key function in the design aspects of renewal, upgrade, retrofit of existing seed facilities, and greenfield seed facilities. The overall coordination of engineering activities throughout the life of a project is assigned to the Project Manager (PM) with Project Engineer (PjE) driving execution of project-based activities.
As part of this Johnston, Iowa based position, the selected applicant will have the flexibility of working 2 days per week remotely.

The Project Engineer drives the detailed engineering activities throughout the life of the project up to and including with organizing and directing the engineering, procurement, and construction activities involved in the design of the facilities. Project engineering enables adequate project control systems to allow schedule and cost forecasting as well as robust change control. The incumbent will work with the PM to coordinate the technical contract package development and deployment for execution of the project and will direct and administer activities with the successful contractors.
For Engineer-Procure-Construction/Construction Management (EPC/EPCm)-managed projects, the PjE is responsible for helping the PM with planning, leading and providing owner’s role oversight of the contractor’s detailed design effort through design completion. The PjE helps lead the execution of Front-end Loading (FEL) as described in Corteva’s Project Development and Delivery Framework (CorePD). The PjE, working with the PM, is responsible to ensure that Corteva and Contractor resources are assigned with clearly defined roles and responsibilities. The PjE assists the PM to develop the engineering budget for FEL and is jointly responsible to ensure that the total project investment and project schedule meet Business and Project Objectives.
PjE’s challenge the internal Corteva team to ensure understanding and alignment of the owner’s needs and objectives to better define/communicate the owner’s interest when engaging contractors or suppliers. This includes comprehensive evaluation of Basic Data quality, to Commissioning and Startup requirements to turn-over package prior to acceptance with development of an action plan to address any deficiencies. PjE’s also ensure detailed design integrates and is compliant with code and other requirements, reasonable and generally accepted good engineering practices (RAGAGEP), and Corteva Engineering Standards.
What expertise have you grown? What do you bring to the table?
B.S. in Chemical, Mechanical, Agricultural, or Construction Engineering or equivalent.
5 to 10 years of relevant experience in project development and execution depending on the type of experience and project size.
PMP certification desired but not required.
Travel varies by time of year and could be in excess of 40% during busy construction activities.
Strong facilitation and communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills with the ability to influence multiple levels of the organization; able to take a “hands-on” approach in training and execution.
