HNTB Technology Project Engineer in Des Moines, Iowa

What We're Looking For

Seeking a project engineer in our Kansas City, Des Moines, St. Louis or Oklahoma City office locations. The successful candidate provides coordination of project execution and control in the transportation technology area related to project scope, budget, and schedules from initial start-up through project closeout. Also accountable for handling specific design tasks on projects appropriate to transportation technology. Coordinates efforts of assigned design team to ensure completeness and accuracy of design tasks. Serves as technical liaison with clients on project efforts.

Primary transportation technology focus will include:

  • Communications network design

  • Fiber optic design for a variety of clients and needs

  • Roadside technology design (intelligent transportation systems (ITS))

  • Automated and connected vehicles CAV planning and design

  • Transit Technology

Additional project engineer focus will include:

  • Completes communications network, fiber and technology designs with minimal direction

  • Responsible for preparation and completion of communications network, fiber and technology engineering designs that are responsive to project needs

  • Coordinates preparation of design details, plans, drawings and specifications within assigned task areas

  • Helps supervise, schedule and check work of project team members

  • Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects

  • Conducts reviews and makes recommendations of approval of potential construction change orders, utility agreements, and construction & utility pay estimates

  • Communicates effectively with the internal and external project team

  • Serve as technical liaison with client on project efforts

  • Builds relationships with client teams

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master's degree in Engineering

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the delivery of project discipline scope elements within budget and schedule.

  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work. Guides team to overall project objectives.

  • Serves as technical liaison with client at staff level for work within the discipline.

  • Assists with project management duties.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 6 years relevant experience
