Iowa Employer Waste Handler in DES MOINES, Iowa
SUMMARY:Accepts wastes from waste streams, segregates hazardous from non-hazardous material and prepares label for appropriate storage and/or disposal. Performs work in a safe, responsible manner by following all safety rules and procedures. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:Removes waste from pallets, trash barrels, wire baskets, offices, production and storage areas, laboratory and maintenance.Organizes and inventories all waste and recycled materials stored in facility.Monitors and assists the production department to be sure all waste materials are stored in the proper containers and that the containers are properly labeled.Prepares and loads all waste materials, both hazardous and non-hazardous, for shipment in accordance with D.O.T. regulations.Prepares and loads any non-waste material for shipment in accordance with D.O.T. regulations.May use appropriate machinery to wash, rinse, crush, shred or chip drums, containers, etc. to decontaminate and reduce bulk.Maintains a clean work environment both inside and outside the facility by using good housekeeping habits.Other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.Reliable and regular attendance is expected.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of one year related experience. OTHER SKILL AND ABILITIES:Working knowledge of D.O.T. and EPA regulations.Forklift experience.Reading, writing and arithmetic skills.Must be capable of passing an OSHA respirator physical.Ability to stand for long periods of time in extreme hot or cold temperatures.Must be available to work rotating shifts as scheduled.
