Shive-Hattery has an immediate opening in our Iowa City office for an Entry Level Intern-Architect/Interior Designer positon with one summer and up to three years of experience working in a professional service firm.
Position: Under the direction of the Project Team Leader this Design Professional position, performs a variety of duties associated with support of design expertise on Public / Government, K-12 Education, Healthcare and Commercial Projects. This position involves contributing design knowledge-based experiences with a focus on the variety of markets we serve, with an ability to adapt to different delivery methods required by our clients and production team members.
Expectations of role: The timely, professional, and accurate production of design documents, computer generated renderings, technical drawings and other items associated with the delivery of architectural design services.
This position requires working closely with project leadership to plan, develop and deliver architectural projects. It requires communication skills with individuals within the organization with responsibility for acting independently on assigned tasks but in conjunction with the project’s objectives.
Skills and Knowledge: Applicant is required to have a good general working knowledge of architecture and design. Able to operate a variety of computer software programs such as Revit, Autocad, MS Office, PowerPoint, aknowledge and ability to produce renderings and other visual graphics, using Rhino, Lumion, Enscape and Adobe products and/or 3D Studio. Applicant is able to solve a variety of problems in situations where only limited standardization exists. Demonstrate ability to be courteous with tact necessary to effectively work with others using good communication and human relation skills.
Education: Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Architecture or Interior Design from an accredited school.

A large portion of the day is spent sitting, with moderate amount of standing, and walking. Heavy use of computer results in some repetitive motions with hands, wrists, and arms. Risk from these motions is minimized by practicing proper posture and by using ergonomically correct positioning of hands, wrists, and arms. Applicant may have some exposure to electrical equipment, cold, heat, heights, skin irritants, lung irritants, loud noises, difficult or unusual site surfaces, particularly during Construction Administration activities. Risk from these exposures is minimized by strict adherence to Company and OSHA safety standards, policies, practices and procedures.
