Do you pride yourself in being a jack-of-all-trades? The Laborer is our entry-level position that is critical to support plant needs by ensuring a safe and productive work environment. In this position, you will have the opportunity to use different skills every day as you learn the cement industry and fill in for vacancies in various areas of our plant.

This position will reside in Mason City, IA.

What you’ll get to do:

The Laborers perform general labor activities for the entire plant including:

  • Material clean up

  • Alternative fuels unloading, chopping

  • Housekeeping

  • Snow removal - seasonal

  • Maintaining walkways and roadways

  • Follow all plant safety policies and procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment.

  • Physically inspect plant properties, where climbing steps, ladders, working in close areas, working in elevated areas, working in adverse weather conditions, etc. and physical exertion is a primary responsibility.

  • Use tools/equipment including but not limited to a shovel, broom, jackhammer, sweeper, forklift, bobcat, vacuum truck.

  • Observe operation of equipment to ensure continuity of flow, safety, and efficient operation, and to detect malfunctions.

  • Detects malfunctions in equipment operations by observing and listening to equipment operations and notifies supervisor of any problems.

  • Must complete all assigned work in compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory requirements (i.e., MSHA, DOT, DOL, etc.), including safety programs administered at a State or Local level where allowed by the Department of Labor. Must maintain awareness of surroundings at all times and perform their work in a safe and productive manner. In the event of a workplace incident, immediate notification to a supervisor and/or manager is required.

  • Shift work based on assignment and ability to work weekends and holidays required.

  • Train in multiple areas of the plant and act as vacancy relief.

Must be capable of the following:

  • Working from elevated heights

  • Working on uneven surfaces

  • Performing heavy manual labor

Who we are looking for:

  • Availability to work any shift any day as well as overtime as required.

  • Mechanical or electrical background preferred with a desire to move to other job classifications.

  • Prefer high school diploma or GED

  • Some college or technical is desired

  • National Career Readiness Certificate is considered.

  • Previous work experience in a heavy industrial and/or manufacturing environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; strong problem-solving skills

  • Ability to operate mobile equipment.

Benefits and Compensation:

Pay starts at $19.00/hr. with an increase to $20.13/hr. after a probationary period of 60 days.­ Scheduled increases are per the collective bargaining agreement.­ Shift differentials and Sunday premium pay also apply.­ Excellent benefits including 12 paid holidays, 401K with automatic matching company contributions, vacation, the company paid disability, life insurance, AD&D, medical, dental and vision coverage and tuition reimbursement.

There are many opportunities to move to other positions in the plant as well as the company.­ The Mason City plant produces cement 24 hours/day and 365 days/year and includes quarry and shipping operations.
