MP&W is seeking an Electrical Engineer to provide electrical engineering support for on-going transmission and distribution, water, technical services, generation, and telecommunication projects. Work with internal and external customers to provide engineering guidance and administer contract responsibilities as needed. Work with other departments to schedule work as needed.This position has a level I and a level II grading based on experience and demonstrated abilities. Tasks are performed at each level based on the individualis knowledge and experience.Specific ResponsibilitiesiMonitor and coordinate current construction and maintenance projects. Including:◦Work with contractors and consultants.◦Periodically review and update construction standards and practices.◦Apply engineering principles to the evaluation and selection of planning alternatives.◦Assist in the design and layout of electrical transmission and distribution lines.Review work orders and coordinate work as necessary.◦Assist in the coordination, interpretation, and preparation of electrical transmission and distribution system studies, computer models, load flow analyses, and short circuit studies.iCoordinate engineering activities with industrial and commercial customers. Activities include MP&W policy, technical details (including power factor and harmonics), and general assistance with electric service installations. This may include:◦Assist in writing and evaluating major equipment specifications and contracts, including transformer and cable specifications.Contracts include pole attachment agreements, easements, and franchise agreements.◦Support utility arc flash studies and supply data for customer studies.Other ResponsibilitiesiAssist Chief Operations Engineer with technical problems related to the operation and maintenance of electrical transmission and distribution, water, technical services, generation, and telecommunications systems.iAssist Planning Engineer in running and analyzing compliance studies for NERC, MRO, and MISO.iAssist with overall system reliability improvement efforts, including the development, population, and use of databases used to track failure, maintenance, and outage issues.iAssist in the development of the annual operating budget and appropriate projections for the department.iOther duties as assigned.KnowledgeiBacheloris degree in electrical engineering, power option preferred.iElectrical Engineer I is an entry-level engineering position; Electrical Engineer II is a minimum 3 years electric utility transmission and distribution experience preferred.iRegistered Professional Engineer in the State of Iowa beneficial for level II position, or working toward certification.If obtained, certification must be maintained while employed in the position.iKnowledge of applicable local, state, and federal codes and standards that govern work on the electric transmission and distribution system, such as NESC, NEC, NFPA, OSHA, NERC, MRO, and MISO procedures, and others as they pertain to specific problems encountered.iWorking knowledge of, and the ability to stay current in, programming languages such as VBA.iFamiliarity with CAD and GIS preferred.SkillsiExcellent verbal and written communication skills.iExcellent interpersonal and listening skills, with ability to build productive professional relationships and promote a team atmosphere.iProject management skills.iGood judgment and reasoning skills.iProblem identification, analysis, and solving.iProficiency with use of Microsoft Office Word at an intermediate level and Excel at an advanced level.iProficiency with information retrieval from databases preferred.AbilitiesiAbility to work as part of a team, either as team leader or a member of a team.iAbility to drive results and ensure work is accomplished properly, safely, and in a timely manner.iAbility to work independently, effectively prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and ad
