Felsburg Holt & Ullevig Traffic Engineer, Mid-Level - TE0001 in Omaha, Nebraska
Felsburg Holt & Ullevig (FHU) is seeking a self-motivated and experienced mid-level engineer to deliver innovative transportation operations and safety solutions through advanced analytical tools, technical expertise, and project management. This role offers significant technical and project management responsibilities, with accelerated career growth potential for the right candidate. This position is available at our offices in Omaha, NE; Lincoln, NE; or Des Moines, IA.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and contribute to a variety of projects, ranging from small to mid-sized traffic engineering tasks to larger multi-disciplinary efforts.
Oversee data collection, perform technical analyses, and prepare detailed written documentation.
Conduct traffic analyses to identify operational and safety deficiencies for all modes of transportation.
Develop travel demand forecasts for both current and future scenarios.
Present project findings in reports, client meetings, technical forums, and public hearings.
Utilize traffic modeling software such as VISSIM, TransModeler, Synchro/SimTraffic, and SIDRA to prepare engineering reports.
Identify mitigation measures and safety countermeasures for current and projected traffic conditions.
Evaluate alternatives and recommend improvements based on measures of effectiveness.
Create traffic management designs, including alternatives and construction plans for traffic control during transportation improvement projects.
Design permanent signing, pavement marking, and traffic signal systems per MUTCD guidelines.
Contribute to business development efforts, mentor staff, and oversee project-specific tasks.
Participate in proposal development, cost estimation, and client interviews to secure new business opportunities.
Ensure adherence to FHU’s quality management system and oversee analytical work by other engineers and planners.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering (required); Master’s degree with a concentration in Transportation Engineering is a plus.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years in transportation operations and safety, including traffic impact analysis, safety studies, signal designs, and feasibility studies.
Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) certification or active pursuit of certification in Nebraska or Iowa; PTOE and Road Safety Professional (RSP) certifications are a plus.
Skills: In-depth knowledge of traffic engineering standards (e.g., MUTCD, ITE, NACTO, AASHTO) and best practices. Proficiency in managing traffic engineering projects and contributing to multi-disciplinary efforts.
The pay for this position has a range of $85,000 - $100,000 annually. The actual offer will carefully consider a range of factors including your skills, qualifications, and experience.
