Director of Facilities Management

Northwestern College is seeking applicants for a director of facilities management to begin March 2023. This is a full-time, 12-month position managing the college’s physical plant and its staff.

Overseeing a department of approximately 20 FTE staff, the director provides general management, supervision and professional direction to a comprehensive department that includes facilities planning; facilities maintenance and repair; renovation; utilities distribution; custodial, landscape and other maintenance services; and environmental sustainability initiatives. The physical plant of the main campus sits on 100 acres and includes 29 buildings with floor space of approximately 825,000 square feet and athletic fields. The position reports directly to the vice president for finance and operations.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have, at a minimum, an associate’s degree or 1-3 years of post-high school training in building trades areas such as construction, electrical, plumbing, etc., with preference given to those with 4-7 years of progressive experience in building trades, supervision, and contractor or vendor negotiations, including managing projects. The ability to read schematics for building projects is also preferred. The candidate must be a person with strong organizational and computer skills and outstanding interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, as well as the ability to multi-task. The candidate must be a self-starter with attention to detail and a team player willing to contribute in a collegial environment.
