Musco Lighting Senior Systems Engineer in Oskaloosa, Iowa


Primary Purpose:

Contribute to development and support of controls products, including system architecture design, specification development, integration testing, product release activities, improving internal process and systems, Warranty training and support, and troubleshooting complex field issues.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in system architecture discussions involving multiple development teams.

  • Participate in the creation of product interface specifications that detail system-level interactions.

  • Participate in the creation of functional specifications for products, particularly those items dealing with system-level interfaces.

  • Lead design efforts involving interaction between multiple Musco products, e.g., alarms, notifications, firmware upgrades, and so on.

  • Specify interfaces and interactions between Musco products and third-party products (e.g. ETC DMX controls).

  • Assist in designing and specifying internal processes and systems needed to efficiently support Applications Eng., Production, Services, and other internal customers.

  • Support product release and launch activities being executed by PDE, Applications Eng., CLC, IT, Services, and Marketing. Activities would include:

  • ENC release,

  • Programming of engineering tables,

  • Creation/modification of Engineering screens, factory commissioning processes and data, and field commissioning processes and data,

  • Components tracking procedures,

  • Pricing table structure.

  • Lead troubleshooting of complex field issues involving interactions between multiple Musco products or between Musco products and third-party products (e.g. ETC DMX controls).

  • Report status and progress to key team members not directly involved in the investigation (Sales, Exec Team, etc.).

  • Triage product defects and recommend priorities for correcting known product deficiencies.

  • Assist with the specification of the product and system-level testing.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.

  • Minimum 5 years experience with Musco controls products in an R&D, Applications Eng., or similar role.

Job Specifications:

  • Demonstrated PC proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Basic knowledge of electrical engineering principles, concepts, practices, and theories.

  • Ability to use common test and measurement equipment: oscilloscopes, multi-meters, etc.

  • Have basic knowledge of networks and communications (RS485, RS232, TCP/IP, etc). Willingness to learn.

  • Team player.

  • Self-motivated.

  • Strong analytical ability.

  • Methodical approach to problem-solving.

  • Attention to accuracy and detail.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must be able/willing to deal with frequent priority changes.

  • Must have personality/demeanor suitable for appropriately dealing with others, including company leadership, even under stressful circumstances.

Other Special Requirements:

  • Up to 5% travel may be required. Travel includes trips to job sites, seminars, corporate and manufacturing facilities, and vendors.

  • Overtime is required as needed including weekends.
