Monday - Friday 7am - 3:30pm

To provide all electrical installation and maintenance services that include using established engineering practices in correcting malfunctions; assisting with design, installation, and modification; performing quality assurance and code required testing; and performing preventative maintenance procedures applied to all types of electrical systems, and equipment, plus other medical center equipment. This position will have sole responsibility for all electrical devices and systems in the Unity Point Health system.

PERFORMS REGULAR AND SPECIAL WORK ASSIGNMENTS TO MAINTAIN ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS AND EQUIPMENT IN A FUNCTIONAL AND SAFE CONDITION WHICH MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS OF ALL APPLICABLE CODES.

  • Maintains knowledge and skilled in the installation of low voltage and repair of normal (110/208/277/480) electrical power.

  • Maintains knowledge of power distribution throughout the facility.

  • Maintains knowledge of high voltage electrical supply to the facility.

  • Maintains Familiarity with emergency generator sequencing and power distribution.

  • Maintains Skills in diagnosis and repair of lighting fixtures.

  • Performs all work within acceptable building code guidelines, including knowledge of IDPH/JCAHO requirements for emergency/critical power requirements.

  • Performs all the above in a timely manner.

PERFORMS GENERAL AND SPECIAL WORK ASSIGNMENTS AS REQUIRED ASSIGNED WORK REQUEST OR SELF-IDENTIFICATION OF NEED. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED IN A SAFE, EFFECTIVE, TIMELY AND EFFICIENT MANNER FOR IMPROVEMENT OF THE SYSTEMS AND BUILDINGS BEING SERVICED.

  • Diagnoses problems with electrical problem and the distribution of power to electrical items throughout the facility.

  • Provides continuous input on the status of the facility regarding possible code/safety issues.

  • Performs preventative maintenance tests as required to ensure continuous operation of electrical systems.

  • Provides diagnosis and repair of specialty items as requested by hospital staff.

CONTINUALLY DEMONSTATES THE ABILITY TO BE RESOURCEFUL AND EFFECTIVE. WORKS TOWARDS HIGHER LEVELS OF SKILL AND EXPERTISE AND ONGOING IMPROVEMENT OF BASIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS RELATED TO THE ELECTRICAL TRADES.

  • Attends educational offerings to validate skills and maintain current knowledge of trade.

  • Maintains and updates knowledge of current electrical processes and practices as technology expands.

  • Demonstrates initiative and communications skills required with other staff to ensure proper completion of assigned tasks.

PERFORMS PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE FOR THE PURPOSE OF REDUCING THE SEVERITY AND FREQUENCY OF MALFUNCTIONS OF EQUIPMENT OR SYSTEMS WHICH MAY IMPACT BUILDING OPERATION AND USE.

  • High percentage (+95%) of corrective maintenance request to be for equipment failure in lieu of system failure.

  • Maintains 100% on-time completion of scheduled preventative maintenance.

  • Identifies potential risks/problems when working with the electrical system and inform supervisor.

  • Interacts constructively and supportively with other staff.

Education:

High School graduate or GED equivalent

Experience:

· 5-10 years of experience in/with commercial electrical construction and/or building maintenance. Working knowledge of applicable parts of building codes, E.P.A. regulations, certain N.F.P.A. standards, O.S.H.A. regulations and J.C.A.H.O. requirements as it applies to the electrical fields will also be required.

License(s)/Certification(s):

· Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License in the State of Iowa.

· Additional Information: Fully equivalent knowledge and skill of a Journeyman Electrician, as recognized by local electrical trades. Journeyman license is preferred but not required.

· Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities/hospitals.

· Required to drive your own vehicle for business purposes.
