Responsible for handling all sorts of hard general/manual labor tasks that are job related. Candidates should have a strong work ethic and ability to teach and pick up on new tasks. Perform tasks involving physical labor related to highway and heavy construction projects. Will be required to operate hand and power tools of all types and a variety of other equipment and instruments without supervision. Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards. Must be willing to use, clean, and maintain the different tools used on the construction site. Build and position forms for pouring concrete and be proficient in the operation of concrete saws, hand saws, hand drills and several other hand tools. May be required to operate jackhammers and drills to break up concrete or pavement. Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed. Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery and tools and distribute them to the appropriate locations according to project plans and specifications. Must be able to learn and demonstrate appropriate traffic control protocols in and around work zones. Will be required to grind, scrape, sand, or polish surfaces such as concrete, marble, terrazzo, or wood flooring using abrasive tools or machines. Smooth and finish freshly poured cement or concrete, using floats, trowels, screeds, or powered cement finishing tools.
