JOB DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Director of Innovation for CPM’s Industrial Solutions US Business Unit, located in Waterloo, IA.  The Electrical Engineer will be part of the innovation team that focus on researching and developing new products for our existing international markets animal feed, oilseed processing, green energy, and new target markets. This key position will have freedom to influence the designing, building and testing of complex prototype electro mechanical systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Component selection and integration:   evaluate different sensors, actuators, motors and control devices integrating components into a cohesive system ensuring compatibility and functionality

  • System design and development: analyze electrical requirements, develop conceptual designs and create detailed plans for a system that meets performance, reliability and safety requirements.

  • Conduct testing and validation: develop experiments, conduct tests, and analyze data to evaluate system performance

  • Continuous learning: stay up to date with advancements in electrical engineering and related technologies

  • Participate in training and professional development

  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve electrical system issues through testing, inspection, and diagnostic techniques

  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field; people with mechanical aptitude will receive special attention

  • Proven experience in electrical system design and product development, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work

  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations for electrical systems used in explosive environments (e.g., ISO, UL, NFPA)

  • Ability to work both independently and collaborate with a global team managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

  • Prefer experience with industrial equipment design

  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor Pro, AutoCAD Electrical) for designing electrical systems is a plus

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Candidates with programming and control logic experience given special consideration

  • Proficient in Microsoft suite including Excel and PowerPoint

  • Ability to travel on an as needed basis up to 20% domestically and internationally

  • A strong knowledge of electrical system components. Key items: motors, variable frequency drives, PLC’s HMI, electric actuators, and position sensors

  • Customer focused – must think and act from the customer perspective

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality

  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing

  • A desire to win as a team with a bias for action to help make it happen
