MidAmerican Energy Company Manager, Liquified Natural Gas Facilities in Waterloo, Iowa

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function) * The manager, liquefied natural gas facilities is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, maintenance, design and project management activities of assigned unit(s) to achieve high productivity and quality work and ensure safe, reliable and efficient gas peak shaving operations that comply with all regulatory and integrity management requirements. Controls expenses to optimize cost effectiveness. Assures work is prioritized to maximize efficient utilization of manpower. Develops, analyzes and continuously improves unit(s) standards, work practices and procedures, including all necessary revisions. Assures personnel development is consistent with department objectives of empowerment and multifunctional work execution. Ensures compliance with current local, state and federal environmental regulations. Ensures compliance with all Department of Transportation and state regulatory requirements for LNG facilities. Ability to work effectively with various groups within and outside the plant, including staff support group and labor representatives. Ability to effect a harmonious cultural change from an organization that identifies problems to one that resolves and ultimately prevents them. Administers the liquefied natural gas required training. Participates and conduct plant audits. Monitors unit(s) performance against the plan goals and objectives. Proactively plans projects and maintenance tasks to improve LNG plant performance and reliability. Solid knowledge of gas processing or gas peak plant operating and maintenance practices, including predictive and preventative maintenance methods. Capable of developing and leading a plant culture that promotes employee safety. Must have the ability to motivate assigned personnel and develop a harmonious environment that encourages the initiation of ideas to improve cost efficiency and reliability. Ensures that work is properly identified, prioritized, planned, scheduled and performed in the most safe, cost-efficient way to achieve the mission. Develops project plans, provide direction and coordinate project activities associated with LNG peak plants. Develops, implements and maintains the corporate risk management plan for peak shaving facilities and the peak plant portion of the gas emergency response plan. Interprets Department of Transportation and NFPA codes and requirements for peak plants. Performs administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department, including employee safety, selection and development of employees, salary administration, budget administration, employee counseling and motivation, organization goals and objectives, and planning, organizing, integrating, measuring, and reporting the work performed within the department. Develops response plans for deficiencies discovered during safety, environmental and pipeline safety audits. Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.) Eight years of related technical experience or five years of gas experience. Knowledge of gas processing and or LNG peak plants. Complete the liquefied natural gas training curriculum within 6 months of taking the position. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities. Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently. Effectively manage contractors.
