Your Responsibilities

As a Power Unit Development Engineer for John Deere Power Systems located in Waterloo, IA, you will p erform engine cycle simulations and/or data analysis to support engine and aftertreatment controls and component specification and development (combustion system, fuel system, air system, aftertreatment etc.) In addition, you will...

  • Manage a Performance & Emissions test cell as needed, providing clear work direction for the test cell operators, and coordinating test schedules and experiments

  • Design and execute test plans (simulation and hardware) to evaluate engine, aftertreatment and component performance, using both simulation and hardware and then critically analyze data, model and optimize results, document knowledge, and present recommendations and action plans

  • Provide development support for other functional areas and continuous improvement, mentor and train others when necessary

What Skills You Need

  • (1+ years) Demonstrated competence in performance and emissions hardware, controls, and calibration leveraging model base development (GT, Matlab, etc.) or physical testing

  • (1+ years) Experience with engine test lab equipment, data acquisition, and data analysis tools

  • (1+ years) Demonstrated clear communication of technical data and project information in performance and emissions hardware, controls, and calibration development

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Experience in performance and emissions calibration and development of heavy-duty diesel engines or aftertreatment

  • User experience with GT-Power

  • User experience with National Instruments Diadem analysis software

  • User experience with Matlab and associated toolboxes (MBC, CAGE, Simulink)

  • Experience using Design of Experiment methodologies, modeling, and optimization techniques


Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Ag Engineering or other related engineering disciplines.
