Your Responsibilities

As a Power Unit Development Senior Engineer for John Deere Power Systems located in Waterloo, IA, you will….

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to development engineers (including France - primary and India - secondary) in the areas of technical decisions, best practices, data review and analysis techniques, and knowledge management.

  • Critically analyze data, model system response, optimize and interpret results, document knowledge and present technical recommendations & action plans.

  • Develop calibration requirements, advanced methodologies, processes, and tools to improve Power Unit System development and calibration practices for engine and aftertreatment.

  • Assist in planning/defining simulation tasks and detailed physical test plans for the power unit - engine, aftertreatment or component.

What Skills You Need

  • 5 or more years demonstrated competence in performance and emissions hardware, controls, and calibration leveraging model base development (GT, Matlab, etc.) and/or physical testing

  • 5 or more years demonstrated clear communication of technical data and project information in performance and emissions hardware, controls, and calibration development, including the ability to summarize complex technical issues into key point and recommended actions

  • 5 or more years experience across multiple emission regulations and controls technologies

What Makes You Stand Out

  • User experience with tools such as GT-Power, National Instruments Diadem, DevX

  • User experience with Matlab and associated toolboxes (MBC, CAGE, Simulink)

  • Experience using Design of Experiment methodologies, modeling, and optimization techniques

  • Experience in roles that demonstrate a consistent delivery of quality results and attention to detail

  • Experience in roles that required frequent direction to team members when situations are approached on a tactical basis

  • Experience serving as a mentor to less experienced engineers

  • Experience and recognition as an expert in one or more engine development competencies, such as: engine development, engine calibration, engine controls, aftertreatment development and/or calibration, aftertreatment and/or engine simulation, engine component development or system integration

  • Experience working with/communicating with other cultures (France, India, China, Mexico, Argentina, etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability to work and provide technical input and guidance cross-functionally

  • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Ag Engineering, or other related engineering disciplines.


Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Ag Engineering, or other related engineering disciplines.
